May was busy! My husband and I celebrated our 8th anniversary, my oldest niece graduated from High School, I made it through my first Maternal Mental Health Awareness Month as a Communications Manager, spent time with my parents, maintained professional boundaries (because ya girl knows her worth), and had some cool ventures arise in my practice and job.

Even though May was a busy month, it was also a very fulfilling month. So, as we move into June, I want to ground myself in another word.

I’m naturally curious, and I love to learn, listen, ask questions, and explore more about people, places, and things. This trait is handy when working with clients, drafting my work newsletter, or researching; however, sometimes, my curiosity is helpful for everyone but me.

As a Therapist asking questions is a large part of what I do, and in return, I offer insight, share tips, offer recommendations, and help my clients develop a plan. This is great when I’m working with clients; however, it is not when it happens too much in everyday life. Since asking questions started to feel like work, I decided to be more mindful about asking others questions, or in the words of one of my line sisters, “minding their business.”

What do you think? Do you want to join me this month by being more mindful of preserving your own mental, emotional, physical, and spiritual self?

If so, join me this month by focusing on your own self-preservation and minding your own business.

One way I like to ease into my day with intention is with this simple mindfulness practice in the morning; however, it can be done at night. Mindfulness in a cup is a simple but impactful way to stay present in the moment while enjoying your morning coffee or evening tea.

👁: Describe the color, image, or phrase on your mug

🖐🏽: Feel the smoothness, bumps, warmth, or coolness

👃🏽: Inhale the coffee grounds, chamomile, honey, cream, or lemon

👂🏽: Listen for birds, crickets, wind, rain, or your kids

👅: Last but not least, take a sip!

I hope you find this low-maintenance practice as helpful as I do to start or end your day.

Success! You're on the list.
